Cómpeta is an ideal starting point for many walks and horseback trails through the Las Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama nature reserve, measuring more than 400,000,000 square meters. The reserve is located on the border of the Malaga and Granada provinces and hosts the highest mountain in Malaga: the Maroma, over 2,000 meters high. The landscape is coarse and varied, with steep slopes changing into wide valleys and deep ravines. The differences in altitude cause a multitude of vegetation and wild life. Also, there are several caves: the Nerja caves and - somewhat less touristic - the Fajara cave near Canillas de Aceituno.
